Woohoo!!!!

I'm doing the happy dance here!! Just found out two minutes ago that I got a RAISE and a BONUS! It was a complete surprise. I was totally clueless that raises were in the works. Our admin walked into my office, closed the door, handed me my envelope with the good news and told me it was hush-hush because not everyone got bonuses. I have only been working here 7 months.

I just calculated it... the raise is 8.3%. That works out to an extra month's salary per year.

More books! More books!

Oh, wait, I forgot to mention, I think it's already spent. My husband bought me a new (used) car yesterday ::sheepish grin::. You're not going to believe this but he bought it over eBay. It's in California so he is flying down to LA and driving back with it. I think he's completely insane but it has been inspected and he won't hand over the money until he looks it over. He knows cars inside and out so I trust his judgment. It's a little sports car and really I think it's for him, 'cuz he has always wanted one. I don't really care what I drive. Did I mention he already has TWO pickups? So now all our vehicles are actually his vehicles. How did this happen? Anyway, we're going to sell my SUV. This little car is a hard top convertible and I'm a little worried I won't like going from sitting high in the SUV to sitting low in this car. He says if I don't like it he'll sell it and get me something I like.

I'm spoiled rotten!

I'll try to post a picture if I can figure out my digital camera.

Congrats on the raise!! I got a 7% raise a while back and the norm is only 4%. I'm thinking I got my share plus that of the slightly bitchy and always annoying secretary. Pays to be nice.

8.3% raise is fab! Over here, the average is 3% annually!

Congrats!

Raises are good. Unexpected raises are even gooder. Raises + bonuses are the goodest of all. Congrats!! And isn't it hilarious that when we hear of unexpected windfalls, the first thing our minds go to are books :)

Congratulations! And yes, we're obsessed, we think of everything in terms of books. I recently bought some dollars with my pesos and a friend got me a good exchange rate, and when I calculated how many dollars more I'd been able to get, I thought, "hey, that's X books I could buy!"

Thanks everyone! This is the biggest raise I have ever received. But it's funny that recently I had been starting to feel underpaid. I was layed off for over a year then I did temp contract work for another year (with no benefits) so when this permanent job with benefits was offered I grabbed it. Even though I thought the salary was a bit low. I was desperate really. I shudder to think of having to ask for a raise. I couldn't do it, I'm such a wimp.

It is funny that any extra money I get is immediately converted to 'how many more books can I buy'. I'm obsessed but I'm glad I have company. :)

Renee, that is terrific news! Isn't it wonderful when your hard work is recognized? It sounds like you had your share of rough times so super terrific that you are here now!

Yep, two pick-ups, a company van and my nissan. Bob likes to call it 'the fleet'. My friends think I need a bigger driveway. I can't wait to see the pics of your convertible. Just remember, you can always pull 'but honey, you bought me this car so it's my turn to drive'.

Do you have a winter where you are? Or can you drive your car year round? Bob wants a convertible but I can't see spending a fortune on a car you can only drive for 1/2 the year - if you are lucky ;)

Cindy - Bob and I get teased by the neighbors about the size of our 'fleet'. My daughter is living with us 'cuz she just graduated from college and doesn't have enough money yet to move out. So we have 2 pickups, an SUV, daughter's Saturn, and now new car. 5 cars - so we got you beat - until we can sell the SUV.

We have a very mild cimate here. We don't get extreme hot or extreme cold and very rarely get snow. I think it has something to do with the jetstream from the ocean. But we do get endless cloudy days from November through March or April. Cloudy ranging from no rain to pouring rain. So you can drive a convertible year round. Whenever the sun pops out you will see convertibles with their tops down even though the temp is in the 40's. Brrr, too cold for me. I won't be putting the top down till probably May.

Wow, I haven't touched my blog in over 6 years and I'm still logged in!  Good thing because I have no idea what my password is.  In ...
