Brockmann binge

While cruising my TBR shelf I discovered I had a couple books left to read in Brockmann's Tall Dark and Dangerous series: Identity: Unknown and Get Lucky. So in the interest of closure I decided to read them. This series is all about U.S. Navy SEALs, has won numerous awards and launched Brockmann into fame and fortune and has also earned her a whole boatload of fans. Here is the complete list of eleven books with my grades:

Prince Joe (B)
Forever Blue (B+)
Frisco's Kid (B)
Everyday Average Jones (B)
Harvard's Education (A)
It Came Upon a Midnight Clear (C+)
The Admiral's Bride (B-)
Identity: Unknown
Get Lucky (A-)
Taylor's Temptation (B+)
Night Watch (B-)

Only a few of them were real keepers (A's) or nearly so (B+) but I'll hang on to all of them. They are all the original print version too. I can't figure it out but it just feels wrong to break up the set. I have done that with several other series by other authors as well. Have you ever held on to an entire series when only one or two are keepers?

Next I found several other Brockmann's published under the old Loveswept line. So I read them too and discovered a couple of treasures!

Body Language (A-)
Freedom's Price (B+)
The Kissing Game (A)

Which left Freedom's Price as a possible trade at PBS but just for the heck of it I looked at half.com to see how much I could sell it for (figuring about $5.00 or so) and discover that a like-new copy goes for $42.50!! OMG, that's ridiculous. I guess I'll hang on to it too. Maybe I'll sell the whole collection someday and retire in the lap of luxury. Uhhh, doubtful. :)

Your grades for these look a lot like mine. Harvard's Education and Get Lucky were my favourites of the TDD series, too, and I LOVED Body Language and The Kissing Game. Have you read Kiss and Tell, the one that comes before TKG? It's excellent, too.

Rosario: It's amazing but it seems like the majority of the time we agree on most books. I WANT Kiss and Tell very badly and have been looking around for a copy. I found BL and TKG at the thrift store in mint condition, like brand new. But I don't think I'll get that lucky again.

I will keep a whole series even if they aren't all keepers .For example, Balogh's 'Simply' Series and Beverly's 'Rogue' Series. Maybe in a few years when I'm not emotionally attached I can read them as a set then decide to let some go. Or not :-)

I haven't read any Brockman yet, can you believe it? I'm a veritable infant!

I checked out PBS but didn't realize that your in the States. Canadian postage is ridiculously expensive so I doubt I could do swapping and save any money. *sigh*

I agree about Kiss and Tell. It was the first SB book I ever read, and I was immediately hooked. It still gives me butterflies to read it. It's been awhile since anything I've read recently has done that.

I have yet to read any Brockmann. I guess I should start!

I also keep an entire series, even if not all of the books are what I would classify as "keepers." I'm currently reading a book that is part of a series as well, and even though it is not a book I will keep, I find myself wanting to buy the other books in the series, just to read the other characters' stories.

And so grows my TBR pile....

Kyahgirl: I have Beverley's 'Rogue' series too. Someday I want to reread it. Oh, darn, I forgot you are Canadian. Sorry about that. The newer Brockmanns are sort of hit or miss with me so I'm taking a break from the last ones.

Stacy: I decided I couldn't wait to find Kiss and Tell so I ordered it from half.com. Price wasn't too bad.

Jenni: One of my fav Brocmanns is Heart Throb. It's a contemporary with NO SEALs. Excellent, a good place to start. Yeah, I'm a series junkie too and I can sometimes get obsessive about reading them in order.

I can never break up a series even if there's just one book that does it for me. I'm thinking when that when I'm an old lady and can't afford books and I want to re-read I'll want to have the whole series. Seriously addicted, huh?

Rosie: You sound just like me. I'm a book addict no doubt.

Wow, I haven't touched my blog in over 6 years and I'm still logged in!  Good thing because I have no idea what my password is.  In ...
