Suckitude

Let me quote the Urban Dictionary: "Something that sucks to a higher level of sucking. This is called suckitude."

Okay, so "why has she been MIA?", you ask. I got laid off on Monday. As you can imagine I have been feeling a tad depressed. I have been complaining about this job and have been meaning to update my resume for a while now, so looking at the bright side, this is a good thing. I'm getting 6 weeks severance pay plus they are paying my insurance through the end of October.

It's just the way they did it that pisses me off. My boss's boss calls me in at about 10:15 am with the HR rep and basically says you are no longer employed as of this very minute. Pack your stuff and leave. Or I could leave right now and come back later to pack. Well, of course, I gave them a piece of my mind. I have the most seniority of all the test engineers, but he sheepishly confessed that lots of other testers were being laid off too. Basically, my job has been outsourced to China. Wonderful, huh? Anyway, I was out the door (in shock) by 10:30 am and will go back to pack my stuff on Friday. Wasn't able to say goodbye to any of my friends.

Turns out they laid off 20% of the employees that day. The company has been making a series of bad management decisions (IMHO) and had a drop in sales last month. Best of luck to them (NOT).

My elbow problem has been much better lately. I have been going to physical therapy twice a week and I think it has helped. My insurance covers the whole thing but now that my insurance will be cut in half (Bob's plan still covers me), I may have to give that up. But then I'm not typing so much now anyway. I took a picture of the brace I have been wearing.

Oh, well, life sucks sometimes. There's some saying about lemons and lemonade I'm too stupid to quote right now. But you know what I mean. I have been making lists of projects I want to work on like painting the spare room, and reupholstering my dining room chairs. After updating my resume and job hunting (yuck). But I have more time for reading and blogging. Say a prayer for me to find job quickly. :)

Renee! ((((((((Hugs))))))) That is shocking news - and all the time you've given them. and everything about it is just wrong!! The way they did it, that so many were gone the same day, the fact you didn't get a chance to say goodbye, the fact it's because they outsourced it (that really is NASTY).
Having been laid off of a number of jobs over the years, I know what a huge jolt it gives to your system.
And of course prayers to you!!
If it's any inspiration, it wasn't until I reached the tender age of 53 that I finally found the job of my dreams and I couldn't be happier where I am now.

So sorry to hear about the job, Renee! I hope you find something soon. I'm hopeful that whatever it is, it'll be better than what you've been doing.

Kristie: Thanks so much. Yes, nasty is a good word for it. I have been laid off several times in my career as well, but this time was just so evil. I would love to find the job of my dreams but I'll settle for something interesting and satisfying.

Dev: Thanks! Yeah, I'm going to be picky next time.

Oh Renee, I am so sorry! Actually, I'm right there with you. I just got laid off today. Things have been very shaky with my company for some time, so I wasn't surprised. I've actually been job hunting for the last week or so.

I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers! I hope you find something soon!

I am just shocked. I'm so sorry - I read 'laid off' and couldn't breath. I can't even believe they would do such a thing!

China!!! I want to swear like a sailor right now.

And they SUCK HUGE! I'm glad you gave them a piece of your mind but that doesn't help you now.

Prayers that you find something that you love.

((( Renee))) I'm so sorry you got laid off. HR should be ashamed of themselves for the way the handled delivering you the news. And the reasons for it, too? Outsourced to China!! Ugh. That's terrible.

Sending warm thoughts and positive vibes to you, hoping you find a job you enjoy very soon. In the meantime, enjoy the time you have to catch up on some of those projects and heal your elbow.

xoxo

Awwww Reneee, I'm so sorry to hear about your job. That's horrible. Not that it's any comfort, but this is going on everywhere. On Tuesday on his drive to work my husband got a call from HR and his boss informing him that when he arrived at work they would be calling him and his assistant in because they were going to lay her off. Just like that. A single Mom who just four months ago had a double mastectomy, needs the job and the insurance. Talk about sucking. My DH was livid. There was no saving her job or moving her though, they cut the same position across the board across the company.

In the current economic climate none of us are safe.

I am thinking of you. I had to sign a RIF letter when my school district's levy was in danger of failing. It totally sucked.

Hoping you've made those lemons into lemonade, and spiked said lemonade with some tasty booze! (Metaphorically speaking, of course...)

Wow, I haven't touched my blog in over 6 years and I'm still logged in!  Good thing because I have no idea what my password is.  In ...
