Greetings from the saltmines

Yup, I'm feeling pretty bitchy right now so be prepared for a major rant. I worked last Saturday and refused to work Sunday although I was asked to which probably pissed some people off but I don't care. I have a life! I have other commitments! I go to church on Sunday mornings and I'm not a religious fanatic which is probably what they thought (but we Lutherans are pretty tame :-). I belong to a community handbell group and we have rehearsal on Sunday afternoons and I have to get a sub if I can't be there (which is impossible to do this time of year).

Today we were told that lunch and dinner will be provided every day plus breakfast on Saturdays until we ship our product on 12/22. Basically they want us to work work work everyday and not leave the office for lunch or go home for dinner. Nose to the grindstone until ship day. Why don't they just get out the ol' ball and chain and attach us all to our desks? What's next... porta potties in our offices?

Now some may say that they are just being thoughtful by buying us lunch and dinner but I need to get away from this place occasionally. I workout on Monday and Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings and I don't plan on missing it. Our bible study group (we're more social than bible study) is having a cookie exchange on Thursday. Bob and I are going to a Christmas brunch at a fabulous restaurant next weekend. AND I want to do some Christmas shopping and decorating and baking. Oh, and Christmas cards. I feel like I'm going to explode. And I feel like I'm on the verge of tears a lot.

My stress quota has been reached.

I finished Hard Evidence by Pamela Clare last night and loved it. Ok, it had problems (and Jane's review pointed them out). But Clare's writing ranks right up there with Linda Howard and Anne Stuart for me. So what bothered her didn't bother me. It was fast paced and extremely HOT. I gave it a B-.

Just started The Wicked Lover by Julia Ross for about the 5th time. Let's see if I can get through it this time. Probably not a good time to try with my work situation.

Oh, well, back to work.

Ah good! You liked Hard Evidence too. I kind of think we might be in the minority on this one, but hey - I really liked it.
And that's nasty about work. How are you supposed to shop and just live a normal life? At least I hope you are getting financially compensated for all these hours you are putting in! And I couldn't get into The Wicked Lover either even though I've loved other stuff she's written.

Kristie: Yeah, you and I may have been the only ones who liked it. I usually like Ross' stuff too but I'm having such a hard time getting past page 5.

I am an exempt employee which means basically that don't get paid for overtime. I just got a raise and a bonus effective Nov. 1 but it was much smaller than last years. I shouldn't complain because I don't work much overtime but it's just the timing of this product release that is pissing me off. Christmas is an extremely busy time of year for most people but they don't seem to give a damn.

That is not right! Man I wish I could help out - anything I can do from Canada?

There are many reasons why I don't work outside of the home but having employers who think it's their God given right to have their employees on site whenever they deem it necessary is one. I used to get my knickers in a knot when they said we had to work a weekend for inventory without pay. They would give us a day off in lieu of money. Hey, how about you hire in a company and I go and have my weekend as planned.

This time of year is stressful enough without having your work monopolize your time. Hey, how about I mail a copy of Ebenezer Scrooge to your bosses? I don't think they could track it back to you ;) Okay, now they could.

Sorry about the crappy time at work but now I want to read Hard Evidence - course, what don't I want to read!

Maybe adult diapers? LOL, sorry, sorry, couldn't resist. Evil, evil bosses! I like Cindy's idea of mailing them that book :-D

I'm sorry works sucks.

I haven't "loved" everything I've read by Pamela Clare, but I do think she's got a good writing style and voice. Hard Evidence is on my TBR pile, maybe I'll move it up.

Cindy: Just got home from work. Put in 12 hours today. Mailing them a copy of Scrooge won't do any good, they're clueless or just don't care, but thanks for the thought.

Rosario: Haha, very funny. :)0

Tara: If you liked Extreme Exposure, I'm sure you'll like this one. Clare's writing really works for me.
